The first day of the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event is in the books. The day wasn't too long, lasting just nine levels and ending right around 11:00 PM local time in The Bahamas, but it was a very exciting one. For one, the field grew to 418 players on Day 1a. That's a very good number considering all that has been affected from Black Friday and puts the hopes of hitting around 1,200 very, very likely. Second, we saw the emergence of a massive chip leader with the name Alexey Repik.

Repik climbed all the way from the starting stack of 30,000 in chips to finish on 220,100. He played fairly aggressive for most of the day and used a rather unorthodox style as to what most players are doing these days. Instead of smaller raises preflop or smaller bet sizes compared to the pot, Repik was often raising well over three times the big blind and betting near full pot, if not a little more, during the day. Whatever he did worked, though, and he'll be a very tough man to catch for the Day 1b competitors.

At the end of play, the board read that just over 200 players remained. We'll be sure to post all the official numbers and chip counts once we receive them.

Day 1b kicks off at noon tomorrow and the field will be much, much larger. Some of the pros slated to play include last year's champion Galen Hall, Team PokerStars Pros Jason Mercier, Vanessa Selbst and Daniel Negreanu, Dan Shak, Matt Waxman, Eugene Katchalov and Jen Harman. PokerNews will be here to provide all the updates from the floor and you should be, too. We'll see you then.

Repik Slips Back Some

A player in early position raised to 2,900 before a later player in middle position reraised to 10,000. Alexey Repik called out of the small blind, while the big blind and original raiser folded.

The flop came down {9-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn was the {7-Spades} and Repik bet 5,000. His opponent raised to 14,000 and Repik called. The river was the {8-Clubs} and Repik checked. His opponent fired 30,000 and Repik tank-folded.

Jaka Picks Off The Bluff

Faraz Jaka raised to 2,100 from early position and was called by both players in the blinds.

The {Q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop was checked by all three players, landing the {2-Hearts} on the turn. The small blind checked while the big blind bet 3,700. Only Jaka called to see the {4-Spades} river and the big blind bet 10,900. Jaka was in the tank for about two minutes before throwing in the chips to call.

"Jack high," said the big blind.

Jaka showed {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs} to take down the pot.

Give Me Five!

[user68268] • Level 9: 400-800, 100 ante

The clock has been paused with just over 13:37 left and each table will play out five more hands.

Rosen Takes One Out

Jamie Rosen opened to 1,600 from the hijack and the player on the button three-bet to 5,000. Action folded back to Rosen and he took a look at his opponent's stack before re-raising all in. The button was pained by the decision but in the end, opted to call all in for about 20,000 more with {A-Spades}{J-Spades}.

Rosen tabled a dominating {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} and held through the {10-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs} board to secure the elimination.

Will "The Thrill" Failla raised from under the gun, and a player on his direct left three-bet. The action folded back to Failla, who called, and the flop fell {7-Spades}{k-Spades}{4-Clubs}. Both players checked.

The turn was the {6-Spades}, and Failla led for 2,500. His opponent called. The {10-Diamonds} completed the board, and Failla immediately fired 4,000. His opponent called.

Failla turned over {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}, his opponent mucked, and The Thrill pulled in the pot.
